Title
Storms
Introduction
Have you ever wondered what storms are, where they come from and how they are made? First of all what types of storms can you think of? Hurricanes, snowstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hailstorms, sandstorms and blizzards. Well, there are loads more but the three I’m focusing on you will soon know all about so buckle up and get comfy!

Big Idea 1
lightning. Lightning is a bright flash of electricity which is created when there is negative energy in the air and on the ground there is positive. Here is an example of how electricity is created. Electricity creates when you slide around around on the carpet and then touch a doorknob you would probably get a electric shock wouldn't you. Well if you haven’t then you should definitely try. Lightning kills and injures more people each year than tornadoes and hurricanes which is between 75-100 people.

Big Idea 2
hurricane’s, a hurricane is a huge storm of evaporated water but it is caused by heat and energy. It can be up to 600 miles across and have strong winds spiralling inward and upward at speeds of 75 to 200 mph. The centre of the storm the “eye” is the calmest part, also hurricanes rotate in a counterclockwise direction around the eye.

Big Idea 3
And last but not least, tornadoes. A tornado is a violent rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most powerful tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction from uprooting trees to ripping up houses with speeds of 300 mph. In an average year, about 1000 tornadoes are reported.

Concluding Statement

We are now at the end. So go tell your friends, family and teachers. What these three storms are, where they come from, what they do and how they’re created. Don’t worry you can unbuckle now, but before you go… what other storms do you know about?

Gorilla

WALT; write a non chronological report

Remember to use:
  • an opening paragraph explain what your report is about.
  • headings and subheadings for the main body.
  • an closing paragraph, recapping on what you have written.
  • Pictures, maps etc with captions to explain what they are.
Remember to use fiction not opinions.

The Mighty Gorilla
Gorillas are animals that live in dense forests in tropical Africa, such as Rwanda. Gorilla’s are fascinating animals, who behave a lot like humans and we need to look after them.

What do Gorillas look like?
The gorilla is huge, with broad chest and shoulders. The arms are longer than the midget legs. When standing up they can be over 6 feet tall. It has a huge head and large nostrils. Each Gorilla has a unique nose print which is similar to a human fingerprint.
The fully adult male mountain gorilla is twice as large as the female. It is a shiny black unlike saturn black and it is silver when it is the leader of the troop.
What do gorillas eat
They are vegetarian which means they only eat vegetables. Their diet is quite common but they need a lot of it. They eat a variety different plants, but their favorite food is NOT  bananas, they will eat wild celery, bamboo, thistles and stinging nettles.  They will eat up to 20 kgs of food that's half of someone’s weight that is 40 kgs
What is their behaviour
They like to nest in trees by making a bed using leaves to sleep in. They hang out with their family and they like to groom each other. The leader of the troop is the silverback. He will choose where they eat, sleep and rest. They are very gentle and they will only hurt you if you hurt them. Lastly, they will play and graze for most of the day.
Where do gorillas live
Gorillas are found in Africa. Some live up in the mountains 10,000 feet up where it is cloudy, misty and cold. Some also live in the forests up where it warmer and lots of food can be found.
Conclusion
Gorillas are endangered but fabulous animals. They like to stick together in their troops, their leader is the silver back. I think we should leave them alone so they can live a happy life.
